Vahan Artsruni: One becomes an intellectual when his activity has an impact on the public

In the studio of the program “Paradigm”, political analyst Gevork Melikyan hosts singer, composer Vahan Artsruni. What should be the involvement of cultural figures and intellectuals in politics especially in electoral period? Vahan Artsruni emphasizes that first of all, it is necessary to distinguish what an intellectual means.

“One becomes an intellectual when both his work and activity have an impact on the public or society. When there is no such link the activity becomes purely occupational,” Artsruni says.

The composer notes in Armenia there is a strong polarization in this area and certain qualities consolidated in the poles are opposed to each other. One of these poles is directly fed from the state budget and has certain obligations towards the current authorities. The problem is that the participation of artists involved in the campaign is not ideological.
