The formation of the government through the elections failed in Armenia: Avetik Ishkhanyan

We have a selective justice։ everything for the insiders, laws for the opponents.

When talking about human rights we should first take into account two important principles, democracy and the rule of law. The protection of human rights is based on these two components. In terms of human rights in Armenia, president of the Helsinki Committee of Armenia Avetik Ishkhanyan attaches great importance to the assessment of these two principles. “Now we can evaluate these two components. Democracy, that is, the formation of power through elections. I am convinced that this component is a failed one in Armenia.  All elections in the history of independent Armenia have been rigged. No regime change has ever been through the elections,” Ishkhanyan emphasizes.

As for the rule of law, though it is directly relevant to democracy we can consider it separately. “When we talk about the rule of law, separation of power must be taken into account. If we do not have a judicial power separated from authorities, then it is a judicial system, not judicial power,” the president of the committee explains.

Avetik Ishkhanyan believes the violation of human rights is natural in such conditions. “Human rights cannot but be violated in such a system. We have a selective justice, that is, everything for the insiders, laws for the opponents, and here the impunity of the insiders originates” he says.
