Ruben Babayan: Stupidity is not our national feature
There is no such thing as “the fate of the Armenian.” Artistic director of the State Puppet Theatre after H. Tumanyan Ruben Babayan has its own consideration regarding this phrase. “We have a play of Tumanyan ‘The Foolish Man’, which we ourselves called for a long ‘The Fate of the Armenian’, believing that Armenians have ‘woe from wit’. When we showed this play in a number of countries, surprisingly, people would approach us and say, ‘This story is about us.’ Consequently, this is a common feature. Stupidity is not our national quality, stupidity is a global phenomenon,” Ruben Babayan emphasizes.
Known for his opposition views, Babayan considers it sad that both the opposition and the authorities represent each other not professional but moral allegations. "This proves that both one side and the majority of the second one are far from being proficient in public administration," he says.
According to the artist, the moral requirements that each person should present, first of all, to himself are presented to the others. “I can compare my own morality of the past and the present, to understand whether there is progress or not, instead of giving a moral assessment to the others,” he notes.
