On the trail of Russian TV programs: Boris Navasardyan and Arshaluys Mghdesyan’s professional observations
Following the signing of the agreement between Armenia and the European Union, the anti-Armenian topic was noticeably increased in the Russian media. The insulting statements addressed to Armenia continue to be a topic of discussion here. In this context, the chairman of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan notes, the concrete structures rather than the public should pay attention to these programs.
Navasardyan notes that the Russian policy has two components: rational and emotional. “The Russian elite has implemented a pragmatic approach in 2017, but that does not mean that emotional moments have disappeared. They should come out somehow so they come out of these programs. It is obvious that both the political circles and the Russian public can not have a similar attitude, it is difficult to digest,” he says.
Arshaluys Mghdesyan, a political commentator for EurAsia Daily, points out that there are no independent news TV channels of federal significance in Russia. Nevertheless, Mghdesyan does not think that all this is a policy directed by the Kremlin. “If Kremlin had an objection, it wouldn’t be difficult to convey it through the official TV channels,” he says.
