On the trial of RA President

RA President has no authority to pardon the alleged crime committed by any community leader.

In his latest speech, President Sargsyan pursued completely different goals and was not aware of possible legal reactions. Lawyer Norayr Norikyan adds that the society should respond to this adequately, “and this is what the adequate part of the public does”.

“Actually, the President of Armenia has no authority to pardon the alleged crime committed by any community leader; no governor or minister has the right to even dare to make such a petition to the president. It is an abuse of power which, I dare say, according to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, is a criminal offense,” says the lawyer.

Norayr Norikyan notes with surprise that the president's advisers should have at least informed him about such possible responses. “Though I think that a person who has ruled the Republic of Armenia for ten years must have known his powers well, he should know that he has no right to pardon anyone for an alleged crime,” he emphasizes.

In order to avoid confusion, Norikyan clarifies that in any country, the president has the exclusive authority to pardon the convict, which is quite a different status. Find the details of the conversation in the program “Paradigm”.
