Diaspora in the background of the revolution: Sargis Shahinyan’s observations

The new authorities of Armenia, definitely, have the political will to work with the diaspora. The General Secretary of the Armenian-Swiss inter-parliamentary friendship group Sargis Shahinyan also notes that not only negative events happened in the Ministry of Diaspora during the previous authorities. “There is a very subtle and important issue that our society need to understand: we should not demonize everything that’s happened. I won’t say that everything was wrong. There were vital initiatives at the Ministry of Defense, useful goals, nevertheless, they could not reach them,” says Sargis Shahinyan.

Due to lack of time, Shahinyan has not yet managed to understand how the relations with the diaspora will develop. “For instance, the issue of the second chamber of parliament is a trap that should be avoided. The diaspora should not enter the legislative chamber trying to look more important,” he says.
